A Note from a prior Commodore
Jan Nolan 2017 Commodore
The Lahaina Yacht Club was founded in 1965 and occupies our clubhouse located at 835 Front St. in Lahaina. The building has a great view of the Lahaina Roadstead and the islands of Kaho`olave, Lana`i, and Moloka`i. Sunsets can be spectacular from the dining room deck overhanging the ocean.
We co-sponsor the Victoria to Maui International Yacht Race with the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, which was first run in 1968, every even numbered year in the early part of July and put on several regattas yearly in the Lahaina area.
We also host a Spring Wahine Fishing Tournament and Fall Jackpot Fishing Tournament. In addition we have a Keiki (children's) Fishing Tournament in early November that provides the Keiki with poles, line, bait, lunch, tee shirts and prizes at no charge.
In September, we're busy with our Charity Gala and Golf Tournament. This event benefits Hospice Maui and is one of our most popular events of the year! Thanks to the MANY who contributed and participated to help gift the organization to help care for the seriously ill residents of Maui.
We have Junior Sailing Classes during summer break as well as our Dinsmoor Trophy regatta in May. Plus, we offer Beginning Adult Sailing Classes all year round. Experienced sailors participate in our Laser races or sail boat regattas in the summer.
The club fleet consists of 8 Sabots, 8 O'pen Bics, 4 Lasers, and an Olson 30 (Snickers). Snickers is used by our club race team for local racing and for daysails by club members and guests.
We are open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. Join us for happy hour and pupus from 3-5pm. The bar is also open on Sundays from 11am to sunset, and the galley is open for lunch only.
Almost any holiday is an excuse for a party, so parties are held roughly monthly at the club throughout the year. Instead of a formal Opening Day ceremony, we have a beach party to celebrate the official beginning of our year's events.
We are open to members of any yacht club with reciprocal privileges. Just remember to bring your membership card from your home club with the current year imprinted. If your card doesn't have a year on it, we need a letter from your club verifying that you are a current member in good standing.
We do burgee exchanges with reciprocal clubs and display the burgees throughout the bar/restaurant area. If your club would like to do an exchange, write us on club letterhead, signed by a flag officer, enclosing your burgee and we will be happy to send you one back. If you are coming to Lahaina and want to do a swap, please make sure you have the request letter from a flag officer along with your burgee.
Looking forward to seeing you at LYC!
