Who are the Boomvangers of Lahaina Yacht Club?
By definition we are the auxiliary of Lahaina Yacht Club. The activities performed under the Boomvanger name are carried out by the Boomvangers, their spouses and contributions from club and community members.
What do the Boomvangers do for Lahaina Yacht Club and Lahaina Community?
Give Scholarships to students
Provide “Christmas” for families of Ka Hale Ola Homeless Resource Centers of Lahaina
Donate funds to the Junior Sailing Racing Team
Decorate the Club for all holidays
Host special events
Host whale watches (seasonal)
Assist with all major events at the club by donating our time in whatever way possible
How do the Boomvangers raise funds?
Currently we hold several fundraising events each year. At the beginning of the year we hold two or three whale watches. The Boomvangers organize every aspect of this event from securing the vessel to providing refreshments on board.
We hold fundraisers at the club throughout the year. In the past, we’ve hosted themed dinner events. Twice a year, the Boomvangers host a Holiday/Mother’s Day Gift Show. We invite vendors from within the club as well as the community. They pay a fee to participate and also donate 10% of their sales to our keiki fund. As we reach the fall we focus on our Keiki Christmas mailer, seeking donations from Club members for our Keiki Fund. Most of the funds generated from this allow us to assist the families of the resource center. ALL funds from our events go directly to the children/ young adults of Lahaina.

Our three primary benefactors:
Scholarships: In the last 29 years we have given over $120,000. In the last four years we have given $10,000 each year. The cost of higher education is continuously on the rise. We award scholarships to graduating seniors as well as those continuing with their higher education. Boomvangers feel strongly in the perpetual scholarship as these students have successfully displayed their commitment to higher education.
Keiki Christmas: For several years now the Boomvangers have raised funds and purchased items to be donated to the Ka Hale Ola Homeless Resource Centers of Lahaina. In these difficult economical times the number of those seeking assistance from the center is on the rise, therefore, our need to contribute is on the rise. We purchase gifts for more than 50 children under the name of Lahaina Yacht Club. Just like everyone, the amount we spend will depend on our financial situation.
LYC Junior Racing Team: We have 20 sailors on the racing team, sailing Open Bics and RS FEVAs. The kids participate in weekly training sessions and currently compete in two major regattas here and on Oahu. The short term goal of our team is to learn to sail and compete in local and mainland regattas. Two of our older sailors have made it very clear that their choice of college will be determined by the school’s sailing team. They are targeting Tufts and Stanford.
